HOSANNA: A CRY OF HOPE AND PRAISE
Brothers and sisters, in our celebration of this blessed Palm Sunday, we are reminded of the significance of the word “Hosanna.” It is a cry that comes from the depths of our beings, a cry of hope, and a cry of praise. The crowd that welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem with shouts of “Hosanna” longed for salvation, for the fulfilment of God’s promise to send a Messiah. They recognized Jesus as the Son of David, the one who would bring deliverance and redemption to God’s people.
As we wave our palm branches and join in this ancient cry of “Hosanna,” let us remember the message that it carries. It is a cry that acknowledges our need for salvation, our desire for God to come and rescue us from sin and despair. It is a cry that also expresses our joy and gratitude for the arrival of Jesus, the one who brings freedom, love, and eternal life.
May our celebration of Palm Sunday not be merely a ritual, but a deep and meaningful encounter with the Saviour. Let us welcome Jesus into our hearts with the same enthusiasm and devotion as the crowds in Jerusalem did so long ago. Let us walk with Him through this holy week, following His example of humility, love, and sacrifice. And let us never forget the power of the word “Hosanna,” a cry that continues to echo throughout history, carrying the message of hope and praise to all who hear it.
