Yes, religion is man doing something of himself to bind himself back to God. With religion, it is a matter of doing it yourself, in yourself, by yourself to see God; this is why religion can never save. Only Jesus can save! The Cross in the Old Testament pointed to look on the serpent on the pole and live. Yes, it is the same as trusting Christ’s death on the Cross. “And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live (Numbers 21:8).” Notice the invitation to receive the salvation that the Lord gives in Isaiah. “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else (Isaiah 45:22).” That’s it!!!
