ON “NO RICH NO POOR”
What? Yes, if everyone took for self enough to meet the immediate needs and released the rest for those in need of it, there would be no rich, no poor in our community! Hmmm!!! A Scottish proverb has it that, ” Do not judge by appearances; a rich heart may be under a poor coat.” What makes it interesting? Jesus Christ says, “…Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15, ESV). Yes, life does not in itself consisting! The preference for integrity reminds the mind that, “Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.” (Proverbs 28:6, ESV). Your wealth does not measure the meaning of your life. Beware of chasing riches for the sake of getting sense through means.
There are many disappointed rich people. Equally, there are many unhappy poor people. There are fulfilled rich people, and there are fulfilled, poor people. Some aim at people with money, and some believe and preach it’s ok to have money. The funny thing is it is always those without money who are pointing the finger and claiming a superior spirituality to those with money. In the words of our Lord Jesus, HE warns against every sort of covetousness (greediness). He meant that we should guard against longing for things we do not have or developing an insatiable desire for this worldly wealth! That’s it!!!
