ON “LOVE YOUR ENEMIES”

ON “LOVE YOUR ENEMIES”

Are you asking or meditating on how could this be possible? What I can say is this, Jesus meant it when HE told me; those words are just as valid today as they have ever been. Has there ever been a time in our society where we needed to discipline ourselves as much as from inside us to love those who are against us genuinely? We need to love those who are against us. If it’s a genuine desire to be like Jesus, this is what it will take. Without this, our soul-winning efforts will lack potency. When you reflect on Jesus’ life and character, HE demonstrated how much HE loved those against HIM. Remember when HE was on the cross, HE said: …“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34). Yes, it can only happen in the transformed heart before it can flow from it. By the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can love our enemies and pray that they believe Jesus Christ.  Remember that Stephen did this, so you know, it’s not just something that Jesus Christ did. You can do it, too: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your friends, hate your enemies.’ But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:43-44, GNT).
