ON “CONTENTMENT”

Are we not at high risk of gentleness if we are too content? What is the measure of contentment? Old buddies, great books, and a passive still, small voice: this is the ideal life. It isn’t what you have or what your identity is or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you cheerful or troubled. It is your opinion about it. Numerous individuals lose the little delights in the expectation of monstrous joy. Be appreciative of what you have; you’ll wind up having more. If you focus on what you don’t have, you won’t ever, at any point, have enough. Since one has confidence in oneself, one doesn’t attempt to persuade others. Since one is content with oneself, one needn’t bother with others’ endorsement. Since one acknowledges oneself, the entire world believes that person. Remember this: “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5, KJV)
