ON “OUR YOUNGER GENERATION”

What have we made of our more youthful age – fainthearted little people without youth, ferocity, fearlessness, without euphoria in endeavouring anything, without apostasy, without inventiveness and distinction?… But we need all that. We need endeavours. We need disappointments upon disappointments and the extreme nature that is terrified by nothing, that holds firm, bears, begins once again and over again until it succeeds until we are through until we are unconquerable.
