What is A Christian?

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins .”(Romans 3:23,24) INDEED, “We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved …”(Acts 15:11) Have you ever thought about what a Christian is? Christians are people who have shuddered at the awfulness of their sin. They have seen sin for what it is: willful rebellion against the rulership of God in their lives. And in turning from their sin, they have embraced God’s only means of dealing with sin, i.e., Jesus. However, nowhere in the New Testament do we find the word church referring to a building. In its earlier expression, the church meant a group of individuals who had come together in the name of Jesus Christ. The Greek word for church is ecclesia, meaning, “the called out ones.” Interesting enough, the English dictionary describes church as, “A place of public worship.” Over the ages, the concept of church has shifted from being a body to becoming a building. People have gotten it backwards. Followers of Jesus must get back to an organic understanding of what it means to be the church. The church is the spiritual and living Body of Christ. Like all healthy organisms, it requires numerous systems and structures that work together to fulfill its intended purpose and overall health. Put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. (Ps. 130:7)
