“Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, …”(John 13:3a) and INDEED, “He had come from God and was returning to God.”(b)

In Rev. 9:1,2; we read, “I saw a star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the key of the abyss. And he opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace.” This however, is not a literal usage, but, the falling star is obviously Satan, and we know that the bottomless pit is his domain; his storehouse, we might say. This indicates that the end-time will be characterised by a special release of satanic powers, and human being will find themselves up against spiritual forces in a new dimension. The greatest need of the believers at such a time is spiritual refreshment. The incident at the supper declares that it was to refresh the disciples that Jesus came forth from God. In time like this, God’s power is available as a ‘refreshness of clean air of heaven for believers.’ By this, the deepest darkness of hell has no hold on the believers.
