In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches us how to pray, emphasizing the importance of sincerity and a pure heart. In Matthew 6:5-8, He says, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

Here, our Lord Jesus Christ highlights two key components of genuine prayer: the intention behind our prayers and the condition of our hearts. True communion with God is not achieved through a public display of piety or through mindless repetition of words. Instead, it is found in the quiet, intimate moments when we connect with God on a personal level.

Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” King David’s prayer embodies the essence of a genuine heart, seeking transformation and renewal through divine grace.
